Let's forcus on this part first: translation: Quote:
Let's work on some averages here: 2 adults plus 2 children average cars 1. vacation - let's assume that they go to Varadero, Cuba at an all-inclusive resort for one week, two times a year. That would cost roughly $8,000 in travel and hotel costs, not including any money that would be brought down there nor any clothing that would be purchased for the trips. 2. three cars - let's go cheap and assume a Toyota Camry that is financed. Three of them would cost $1140.00 month. You'd then have to factor in gas, insurance, and maintenance. Gas is at least $250/month for all three cars, insurance would be around $500/month, maintenance roughly $120/month. This totals to $2010/month, a very conservative estimate. 3. 3,200 sq. ft. house - a house this size in Edmonton goes for roughly $700,000. You'd need a 10% down payment (minimum) which is $70,000 dollars. A 30 year term would mean $2,703.04 per month. Insurance for the house would be roughly $4,000/annum. 4. Education - roughly $7,000 per child, meaning $14,000 per annum. Now, if we tally this up we get: vacation - $8,000 + other costs = $9,500 3 automobiles = $2,010 mortgage and home insurance = $36,436.48 education = $14,000 That means that yearly hard costs equal = $61,946.00. This doesn't include food nor clothing (except vacation) nor entertainment. Weekly food budget would be around $300 meaning an extra $15,000 bringing the total up to $76,946.00. How much do two children cost on top of that? Average hourly wage for a man in Alberta is $28.16 while for a woman it is $22.35. That means the male will make $58,572.80 while the female will make $46,488.00. Together that equates to $105,060.80. If we apply the take home pay calculator, they will take home $74,636.00. This means that they are already in the hole by $2,000 without spending any money on entertainment nor gifts, nor kitchen supplies, home tools, etc. This leaves them with zero money (actually negative money) to be able to save to put down the $70,000 deposit for their 3,200 sq. ft. home. ![]() |

She's full of it. Edmonton is still doing decently compared to the rest of the continent, but this sounds like fantasy city to me. Mind, maybe she and her husband have marketable skills that nobody else has here, one that gets them high paying jobs, but it's still a damn expensive place to live, especially for a family with three cars and a house that big.

I'm not registered on any Croatian board. ![]() But on the other hand, there is a interesting discussion on the portal on which I found the article. hahaha. koje su ovo gluposti. Ljudi, bjezte odavde sto dalje...
