The Italians in Istria call themselves just Italians, never "Croat Italians". They have separate "Italian schools". Ethnic Croats are not even permitted to teach or work at those schools. |

So what are you saying - that there is institutionalized discrimination and racism in Croatia? |

We can only imagine what their reaction would be if there were Croat-only schools. |

I see no problem as long as those Italian schools are private ones and not financed by the state respectively.

And I should remind you of this... http://www.ipress.hr/gradovi-i-opcin...ica-10255.html and this... http://www.barkun.hr/2010/11/12/mati...rizi-labinjan/ In my opinion, these minority schools don't have to be private, but they should be financed by the members of the minorities themselves. Now, it would be great if all the minority children attended their own schools. Contact with them would be absolutely poisonous for Croatian kids. |

The problem is that it discriminates against capable indivduals. If I, a qualified teacher, who is Croatian, but lived in Italy for years, and have all the qaulifications and appreciation of teaching in Italian and the culture that goes with it, then what the fuck is the problem? Like ubojica points out, the Leftists support this form of discrimination because its against the majority, but if it were turned around we wouldn't hear the end of it. And I go a step further, whether its private or government funded is irrelevant. |

Catholic schools do prefer to hire Catholics, imagine.

Do you think we should have ethnic-Croat-only schools? By the way, the thing about these Italian schools in Istria is that they welcome other minorities like Serbs, Gypsies and Albanians, but close their doors to Croats. As Furio Radin, the undemocratically elected Italian MP, said: "we welcome ethnic groups that have a positive stance toward the Italian community", i.e. Croats need not apply. |

I'm consequent here. As long as the school isn't publicly funded, she can make her own conditions concerning the recruitment. |

But that discriminates against certain indvidials or a class of individuals. It also lacks merit. Both of these things are archaic in a modern democracy. |
